Credential JSON format
Switchboard's credential layer stores and retrieves JSON blobs via the credential helper protocol. The helpers are opaque — they don't enforce a schema — so the format is a Switchboard convention.

The switchboard does not translate between API wire formats. Each surface has its own inbound endpoint and request/response bodies pass through unchanged.
Routing algorithm
The core routing algorithm in proxy/router.rs is a pure function — no HTTP, no database, no credential helpers. All state is passed as arguments, making it fully unit-testable.

Switchboard ships OpenTelemetry instrumentation for traces, metrics, and logs, built on the Rust OpenTelemetry SDK (opentelemetry, opentelemetry-sdk, opentelemetry-otlp, opentelemetry-stdout, and tracing-opentelemetry). For enabling and viewing telemetry, see Telemetry.
